The calculator below works out the financial consequences of selling your current conventional car and trading it in for an electric vehicle. It is primarily meant as a comparison between a compact car (e.g. Ford Focus, Toyota Yaris, Honda Civic, etc... etc...) and a Nissan Leaf.
The scenario is that you sell your current car, purchase a similar electric vehicle (same level of comfort and quality), without having to pay any cash up front (we calculate the savings based on the scenario where any additional money needed will be provided by a car finance company at a relatively high rate of interest, as shown in assumptions below). The calculator below will work out how much money you would save (or lose) in this type of scenario.
You can change all the settings and assumptions to match your own situation. What you will find is that if you drive more than around 50km a day - i.e. 18,000km a year, you will start to see significant savings. You can save and share your results at any time.
